Intensive Care Unit
The intensive care units at the Medical Park Loipl Clinic and at the Stroke Centre Loipl play host to a variety of the newest and cutting-edge technologies and are equipped with respiratory monitoring units for optimal treatment of stroke patients, including patients with severe neurological disorders which require an intensive level of care and monitoring including ventilator support.
Even when they are still in the intensive care environment, the patients draw maximum benefits from well-organised treatment plans involving therapeutic aspects. By this, patients gain valuable rehabilitation time, even in those cases where stable circulatory functions and satisfactory respiration can only be maintained by means of advanced and up-to-date intensive care medicine. Any potentially necessary transfer to an external acute care hospital in case of arising complications and any subsequent interruption of rehabilitation will be avoided, using the optional facilities provided by intensive care treatment services. The intensive care unit is operated as self-contained unit providing of 15 patient beds in three one-bed patient rooms and six 2-bed patient rooms. The three 1-bed boxes are furnished with clean room security and safety access control systems. An independent team consisting of medical specialists, nurses and therapists with board-certified training in intensive care medicine attend in a multimodal therapeutic aproach to their patients. Major therapeutic approaches in early rehabilitation include:
- Special position, for instance alignment in neutral position
- Gradual tilt training
- Weaning off the ventilator (weaning)
- Differenciated spasticity treatment (for instance local Botulinum toxin therapy including intrathecal Baclofen pump)
- Weaning off the tracheostomy tube
- Successful avoidance and eradication of MRSA colonisation
- Application of specific concepts (for instance basal stimulation in intensive care)
